Oh it was tough

Oh it was so tough to make it through my workout yesterday. I headed to the gym yesterday evening after I got home from Ottawa. I thought I would get into the workout once I was at the gym, but I was just tired. I did NROLFW workout 6A, and I really struggled especially with my push ups. I’m still working on incline push ups and I wish I could do full body push ups. I normally do about a half hour of cardio after I finish my strength training, but yesterday I just didn’t have the energy for it so I called it a day.

This morning I got up, and immediately headed out the door I had to drive a friend of mine to a Service Ontario office. That took about an hour, and I came back to a great breakfast of Vans Gluten Free Waffles, berries, and scrambled eggs. Yummy.

After breakfast I caught up on my emails, and headed out for a run. After my 5.4 km run around the neighbourhood I was ready to eat again. I made myself a great smoothie with: strawberries, mangos, soy milk, protein powder, and greens+. I had my smoothie in a bowl, and topped with granola. Mmmm, I sure am managing to get my sweet food in.

Now it’s time to get going on my cleaning. Do any of you have a cleaning schedule or routine, to help you stay organized with your cleaning? I don’t have a cleaning schedule right now, but I am thinking about implementing one.

Long Weekend

I’m heading to Ottawa tomorrow to enjoy the Canada Day long weekend, and I am super excited for all the Canada Day festivities!

Back to today. It started off by continuing research about potential northern communities where I might want to go teach. There is so much to think about. I went to teachers college in Thunder Bay, ON and I like to think of that experience as my intro to the north. I now, I now, that’s a bit naive, but Thunder Bay really was a different world for me compared to Vancouver Island or Southern Ontario. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to go to teachers college in Thunder Bay, it was an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for amything.
Around mid- day the bf and I headed to the gym. I did NROLFW workout 5B, followed by some time on the dreaded rowing machine. I find my left hip always hurts after doing dead lifts, and I don’t think it helps that I do lunges on the same day. I tried doing the rest of the routine before without the dead lifts, and I had no pain. I do have a pre-existing hip flexor injury on the left side, so it’s not something that is completely new. I definitely need to invest more time stretching in general. The next time I do dead lifts I’m going to have my boyfriend come and watch my form, to see if there is anything I can correct. My bf is currently injured, so he spends all of his gym time in the pool right now and doesn’t see me lift. I’ve watched a lot of videos on dead lift form, so I think I know what I’m doing, but who knows maybe there is something I can correct.

After a two month unplanned break I started back at my NROLFW routine earlier this week. I hadn’t even finished the first stage when I stopped, but this last week has shown me how much strength I have lost by not regularly lifting weights. I’ve had to drop all my weights and my push-up form has suffered. Today was my workout with squats and push-ups, and it was tough. I started with squats and my legs burned for the remainder of the workout.

I’m determined to train through the summer, and not only have increased strength and endurance, but run a 10k later in 2013. I haven’t found a race yet, because honestly I’m not sure if I am going to move for work or not in September, but I won’t let any major life changes stop me from training.
